Two UCLA Russian Flagship students will be studying in the Flagship capstone program in AY 2020-2021 with the support of Boren Scholarships. Alexa Black and Tyler Le will be studying Superior-level Russian and Russian area studies at Al-Farabi National University in Almaty, Kazakhstan (remotely in Fall quarter). Alexa is an English and History double major, and Tyler is a Biomedical Engineering and Russian Studies double major. Delaney Thurmond (Physics and Russian Studies), was also offered a Boren award, but opted to take a position with the Peace Corps instead.
Flagship graduates Rowan Baker (International Development Studies and Russian Studies, Boren 2018-2019) and Leanna Kramer (Global Studies and Russian Studies, Boren 2019-2020), received Fulbright awards to conduct environmental research and to teach English in Russia.
