Options for students to complete UCLA Flagship classes or study in St. Petersburg
Planned Academic Leave
For students who plan to return to UCLA and complete at least 35 units. Students on PAL retain their status as UCLA students and can apply their state and federal financial aid, but not UCLA aid, to their study abroad.
When you're accepted for study abroad, you can arrange for Planned Academic Leave through by filling out a form found here (http: //www.ieo.ucla.edu/nonucprograms/).
Deferring Graduation
If you have fewer than 35 units to complete, you can defer graduation through URSA as long as you have not exceeded your unit cap (216 units plus AP credits earned in high school).
If you have exceeded your unit cap and are studying abroad, meet with your College counselor and file a blue petition (http: //www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/counseling/handouts/Blue_Petition.pdf).
For anything you do, make sure you see both your College counselor and Vito Grillo, an expert on study abroad in the UCLA International Education Office. The link to PAL information above also includes Mr. Grillo's coordinates. He knows about Flagship and also about policies having to do with study abroad and graduation.
