Location and Maps

The Institute will take place at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) at Student Center East (750 S. Halstead St.)

Lodging

Lodging for institute participants will be available in MARIE ROBINSON HALL (MRH), located at 811 W. Maxwell Street.

All suites have the following:

  • Private bedrooms with lockable doors
  • A shared kitchen and living area (for the guests in that suite only)
  • Shared bathrooms. 4-bedroom suites have 2 bathrooms. 2 bedroom suites have 1 bathroom.

For the floor plans of both the 4- and 2-bedroom suites, see the Marie Robinson Hall page on the UIC Campus Housing website.

Wireless access while at the conference site is provided free of charge. Access while within the residence hall costs $20 per computer for the entire period of the Institute. If you would like to use your wireless code in the residence hall, you will be asked to turn in a check or cash in the amount of $20 when you sign in at the Institute.

Residents will have access to MRH 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each residence hall has a front desk that is open from 8:00AM-Midnight to answer questions and help with access to the building. From 4:00PM- 8:00AM there is an additional layer of “after hours support” consisting of a Summer Housing Assistant (SHA) on call to assist with being locked out of rooms, facilities issues and other concerns. The number for the SHA on duty is posted on each entry door and around the building.

Guests are permitted in MRH, but after 7:00PM all guests must be signed in at the building’s front desk. Guests are signed in by showing proof of identification and then must be escorted by the resident as all times.

On the morning of Monday 17th June, we will meet outside the entrance of MRH at 8:30 and someone will escort us to the Student Center East (750 S. Halstead St.) , where the institute is taking place.

Transportation

By air

Chicago is served by two international airports, O'Hare and Midway. Information about shuttles, taxis, etc. for both airports are available on their website. It should cost approximately $40 to take a taxi from either airport to UIC.

It is also easy to get to campus from both airports on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train for $5. Note: In Chicago, the train is not called the "subway" or "metro" but rather the "El" (elevated train) or just "the train".

"El" directions from O'Hare to Marie Robinson Hall

There is only one line serving O'Hare: the blue line. It only goes in one direction. Take the blue line and get off at the stop called "UIC-Halstead" (point "A" on the map). Walk 2 blocks south on Halstead to 750 S. Halstead (point "B" on the map) for the meeting room, or a few more blocks to Maxwell St. (point "C" on the map) for Marie Robinson Residence Hall.
