July 13, 2015, UCLA International Institute — The UCLA Center for Brazilian Studies today announced the award of 4 Lemann Fellows for the 2015–16 academic year.
These impressive students, all of whom are pursuing higher degrees at UCLA, come from different regions of Brazil. A cohort of the young Brazilian generation, they will no doubt become future leaders in their fields when they return to Brazil.
Created in 2011, the Jorge Paulo Lemann Fellowship Fund is intended to strengthen educational exchange between UCLA and Brazil. Specifically, the Fund assists UCLA departments and programs in recruiting top Brazilian students who both show promise in academic excellence and are in need of financial assistance.
Brazilian students seeking graduate degrees at UCLA in the following departments are eligible to apply for partial financial support (up to US$ 30,000) from the Fund:
• Jonathan and Karin Fielding School of Public Health: MPH degrees, departmental and campus wide e MS degrees in Health Policy and Management, Community Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Health Sciences, Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Biostatistics
• Graduate School of Education and Information Studies: Education M.A., M.Ed
• Meyer and Renee Luskin School of Public Affairs: Public Policy M.P.P. e Urban and Regional Planning M.U.R.P.
• John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management: Business Administration M. (MBA)
• UCLA International Institute (dual degrees): Latin American Studies with Urban Planning, MURP M.A.; Latin American Studies M.A. with John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management M.A. and Latin American Studies M.A. with School of Public Health M.P.H.
Fellowships are granted for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.
The Center for Brazilian Studies extends all its warmest congratulations to the Lemann Fellows of 2015–2016:
Camila Moura, who comes from Sao Paulo, is pursuing an MBA. She is hoping to finish her degree in 2017.
Fernanda Alves of Florianopolis (Santa Catarina), is also working on an MBA, with an expected completion date in 2016.
Guilherme Aboud, who hails from Taubate (Sao Paulo), is expected to complete an MBA by 2017.
Halina Veloso, from Goiania (Goias), is on track to complete her Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning by 2016.
