History

Chul Namgung is a PhD student in the Department of History at UCLA. He received BA in Korean history and MA in modern Japanese history from Yonsei University. His primary concern is how to conceptualize perpetual violence regarding the formerly colonized in postwar Japan, through analysis of immigration control system as the threshold of sovereign power. He is also interested in the ways in which Japanese progressive, leftist, and new-left languages encountered postcolonial conditions of Korean and Taiwanese residents, while simultaneously obfuscating the form of violence.
