Asian Languages and Cultures
Julia Clark is a PhD student in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA. She received a BA in Linguistics from Carleton College in 2012 and an MA in Japanese Literature from UCLA in 2018. Her current research focuses on literary texts produced by resident Koreans in Japan from the immediate postwar period to the 1980s. She is interested in the historicization and canonization of Zainichi women’s writing, and in literary texts produced within and about Ikaino, a historically Korean neighborhood of Osaka, Japan, where residents faced intersecting issues of race, class, language, gender, generation, and national identity in the postwar era.
