Dermott J. Walsh is a Phd. candidate in Buddhist studies. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin and an MA in Japanese studies from Leiden University. His dissertation research analyzes the importance of precepts in the initial development of medieval Japanese Zen. Dermott is also interested in the relationship between precepts and meditation in East Asian Buddhist thought, as well as broader issues concerning philosophical conceptions of morality within Buddhism.
