Established in 1991, the UCLA Terasaki Center has been a platform for research on Japan. Our distinguished faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and the board of advisors have been contributing to the field of Japanese studies for over 20 years.

The Terasaki Center sponsors a vast array of events throughout the year. With its colloquium series, the Center brings academics from diverse fields to UCLA each year. Special workshops and annual conferences bring leading scholars to discuss topics relating to Japan.

Mr. Tomohiro Tohyama

Board Advisor

Tomohiro Tohyama is a partner at TMI Associates, which he co-founded in October 1990. He entered the Legal Training and Research Institute, Supreme Court of Japan in April 1978 and registered with Dai-ichi Tokyo Bar Association in April 1980. He joined Nishimura and Sanada Law Office in April 1980, becoming a partner in August 1985. He has also held positions at law firms Mason & Sloane, LLP. USA., Pollock, Bloom & Dekom, USA, and Pryor, Cashman, Sherman & Flynn, USA.

Mr. Tohyama has been a Director of Avex Group Holdings Inc. since June 2010 and External Corporate Auditor of Nippon Shikizai, Inc. since November 1999. He joined the External Board of Sosei Group Corporation in 2010.

He has been President of the UCLA Japan Alumni Association since 2016.
