Established in 1991, the UCLA Terasaki Center has been a platform for research on Japan. Our distinguished faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and the board of advisors have been contributing to the field of Japanese studies for over 20 years.

The Terasaki Center sponsors a vast array of events throughout the year. With its colloquium series, the Center brings academics from diverse fields to UCLA each year. Special workshops and annual conferences bring leading scholars to discuss topics relating to Japan.

Dr. Keith Terasaki

Board Chair

Keith Terasaki, son of Paul and Hisako Terasaki, was born and raised in Los Angeles. He attended UCLA for his undergraduate and medical school studies. He obtained additional training at the Los Angeles County Hospital and at Stanford University. He currently works as an Interventional Radiologist at the Kaiser Hospital on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. He was chief of the Radiology Department there from 2003 to 2014. Keith is chairman of the Terasaki Family Foundation. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Wesley Health Clinics, the main provider of health care on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. He also serves on the Boards of the Colburn School of Music, the Metropolitan YMCA, and the UCLA Life Sciences. He is married to Cecilia Terasaki, and they have two children, Paul and Susie.
