Established in 1991, the UCLA Terasaki Center has been a platform for research on Japan. Our distinguished faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and the board of advisors have been contributing to the field of Japanese studies for over 20 years.

The Terasaki Center sponsors a vast array of events throughout the year. With its colloquium series, the Center brings academics from diverse fields to UCLA each year. Special workshops and annual conferences bring leading scholars to discuss topics relating to Japan.

Mr. Ralph Shapiro

Board Advisor

Ralph Shapiro and his wife Shirley have built an enduring legacy at UCLA, providing lasting leadership and extensive financial support to strategic areas throughout campus. They have funded eleven Endowed Chairs - ranging from the arts to law and medicine - and have generously provided unrestricted support to UCLA Anderson enabling the Dean to invest in strategic priorities. A longtime member of the UCLA Foundation Board of Directors and an active participant on several campus advisory boards, Mr. Shapiro also serves on the board of directors of the Spastic Children's Research Foundation. In 2009, the Shapiros were honored with the UCLA Award in University Service.
