Established in 1991, the UCLA Terasaki Center has been a platform for research on Japan. Our distinguished faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and the board of advisors have been contributing to the field of Japanese studies for over 20 years.

The Terasaki Center sponsors a vast array of events throughout the year. With its colloquium series, the Center brings academics from diverse fields to UCLA each year. Special workshops and annual conferences bring leading scholars to discuss topics relating to Japan.

Mr. Yukihisa Kitamura

Board Advisor

Yukihisa Kitamura is the Assistant to the Chancellor at Josai University Educational Corporation in April 2012 and is currently the Special Senior Advisor to the President of Tohoku University. In the past, Mr. Kitamura was the Councilor for Minister’s Secretariat at the Ministry of Education, the Administration Bureau Chief at Hitotsubashi University, and was also Vice President of Tohoku University. He was also the Chief for Social Education and Cultural Assets at Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education; a Senior Planning Officer for Lifelong Learning Promotion Division, Chief for Student Division and the Chief of Lifelong Learning Promotion Division at the Ministry of Education as well as the Director for Policy Planning and Coordination at the University of Tokyo.
