Reitaku Foundation of America
The primary function of this program is to promote educational and cultural exchanges between Japan and the United State. Reitaku University, a private university in the Tokyo area, has worked closely with its sister organization, the RICE Japanese Language Program in Washington, D.C. RFA builds on this decade of training experience in Washington

Qualification

  • Must be full-time regular students at an American university
  • have demonstrated academic excellence
  • have studied the Japanese language for at least four semesters at the college level prior to their arrival in Japan
  • The participants would be expected to take regular courses conducted in Japanese, for minimum of ten class hours per week, in addition to Japanese language study
  • Must be in good health, under 25 years of age, and American citizens

Application

  1. A completed RFA scholarship application form
  2. An official university transcript of all courses completed prior to the date of the application
  3. Two letters of recommendation one from a Japanese language teacher
  4. A letter by the applicant expressing why he/she wishes to study at Reitaku University and what he/she hopes to accomplish during the year in Japan
  5. If you have taken the Japanese Language Proficiency Test administered by the Association of International Education in Japan and the Japan Foundation, please submit the scores as soon as possible, even after the application deadline
  6. Finalist will be interviewed at their own expense to determine an appropriate level of Japanese language achievement

Awards Announcement

The two scholarship awards will be announced by the RFA Scholarship Committee by April

Scholarship Coverage

  • Round-trip economy class airfare to Tokyo Reitaku University tuition
  • Student dormitory fees
  • A modest monthly stipend for dining expenses
  • Students will be individually responsible for their own personal and all other expenses not covered by the scholarship
