Tsutomu Yamaguchi (1916-2010) witnessed both of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Stationed in Hiroshima as an engineer for Mitsubishi, he survived the bombing with severe injuries on the sixth, boarded a train for his hometown of Nagasaki on the seventh, arrived on the eighth, and experienced the second bombing on the ninth. This documentary film traces the last years of Yamaguchi’s life, when he became an independent peace activist who shared his story and related the horror of nuclear weapons. Through his peace activism, Yamaguchi touched the hearts of many people, including Hollywood director James Cameron, who visited Yamaguchi in Nagasaki. Yamaguchi’s message about the danger of nuclear technologies has become ever more important in the post-Fukushima disaster world.
