Norman Y. Mineta receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Norman Yoshio Mineta, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and U.S. Secretary of Commerce passed away on Tuesday, May 3rd. As a 2nd generation Japanese American and prominent political figure, Mr. Mineta was a passionate supporter of American civil liberties and U.S.-Japan relations. His contributions to the United States and the Japanese American community are innumerable, and include being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Order of the Rising Sun. We are honored to have counted Mr. Mineta as a friend of the Center, and join the community and nation in mourning his passing.
