Kazakhstan, as an independent post-colonial state, has adeptly positioned itself as a 'globalized' nation, strategically emphasizing its transnational capabilities. However, the country faced cultural transformations stemming from the revival of traditional values and their complex interactions with religious norms. This presentation explores how university-educated youth engage with and reflect upon these multifaceted dynamics, focusing on the ways in which they navigate the tensions between tradition, modernity, and globalization.

Dr. Mira Maulsharif is a Professor at the School of Humanities at Narxoz University and holds a PhD in Sociology from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan. Her research interests include the socio-economic status of ethnic groups, identity formation, social change, and household livelihood strategies in both urban and rural areas of Central Asia.
