Join Tracey Nguyen Mang, the Founder and Host of the Vietnamese Boat People Podcast as she shares how her journey of documenting her own family’s refugee story turned into a podcast, which reaches more than 10 countries, and a nonprofit organization with the mission to help other families capture and share their stories.

As a refugee child, she was ashamed by the stigma associated with being a refugee. Growing up, her parents only shared fragments of their lives in Vietnam and what it was like to flee and rebuild their lives in America. She grew up hearing bits and pieces of her family’s story and the pain and losses they endured seemed to silently linger in the backdrop of their lives.

In 2018, she began the journey to document her family’s stories to preserve them for her two young children. In that journey, she discovered that there are many others in the community trying to piece together their own history. She started Vietnamese Boat People to create a platform that would help families preserve their stories, encourage questions and dialogue at home and amplify the stories of hope, survival and resilience of the Vietnamese community.

In this talk, Tracey will share the importance of authenticity and emotional connections, the power of communities and her top five lessons learned in preserving these stories and producing the podcast.

Tracey Nguyen Mang, was born Nguyễn Quán Trường Anh, in Nha Trang Vietnam, the youngest of seven children. Her family fled the country in three separate trips across three years. In 1981, she arrived in the United States as a boat refugee at the age of three with her mom and two older sisters.

Tracey has over 20 years of business and digital strategy and management consulting experience. In addition to Vietnamese Boat People, she is currently a Strategic Advisor for IBM Corporate Social Responsibility team. She has a B.S. in Advertising & Communications from Johnson & Wales University and an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University. https://www.linkedin.com/in/tracey-nguyen/
