Colloquium with Christina Firpo, Professor of History, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Professor Christina Firpo will discuss her new book, Black Market Business: Selling Sex in Northern Vietnam, 1920–1945 (Cornell University Press, 2020), social history of the clandestine market for sex in colonial Tonkin.

Christina Firpo is an Associate Professor of History at Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, California. She was a fellow at IIAS during Spring-Summer 2013 and a fellow at the KITLV during Summer 2014. Her book, The Uprooted: Race and Childhood in Colonial Indochina, 1890-1975, was published by the University of Hawai’i Press in 2016.
