Korea housing units have more than doubled in the last 20 years. Among these, multi-unit dwelling units (apartment, multiplex housing) have greatly increased from 31.2% to 71.6%. Apartments, the leading housing type, have especially created a residential culture in Korea. An apartment is the housing type gathering personalized residential units. An apartment is easily maintained and is usually located around shopping centers and public transportation stations. However, residents find it difficult to enjoy the residential culture and interact with other residents despite the proximity of the units. Negligence of this problem has accelerated the independence of Korean residential culture.

Professor Mingyu Kim will discuss how a community center can solve this problem in this colloquium.
