On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Dr. Malcolm Kerr's death, a panel of his former students will discuss perspectives on the impact of American education in the Middle East.

Malcolm Kerr was born in Beirut, Lebanon (1931) where his parents taught at the American University of Beirut (AUB).  After early school years in Beirut and at Deerfield Academy, he earned a BA at Princeton, an MA at AUB, and a PhD from Johns Hopkins School of International Studies.  Kerr taught for three years at AUB and completed a post-doc year at St. Anthony’s College, Oxford.  In 1962, he began a 20-year teaching career at UCLA, including serving as chair of Political Science, Dean of Social Sciences, and as the Director of the Center for Near East Studies.  In 1982, Dr. Kerr became President of AUB where, seventeen months later, he was assassinated on January 18, 1984.
