Su Chen’s research interests are historical records of China, history of East Asian libraries, and English publications on China studies. 

Currently, Su is working on two publication projects. The projects aim to enable discovery and access the UCLA EAL’s unique collections possible, which include working with Professor Ge Wu 吳格 of Fudan University compiling catalogs of Chinese Rare Books and Manuscripts and Pre-1911 Chinese publications in the EAL and working with Wanping Ren 任萬平, Associate Director of the Palace Museum, to reprint Professor Yushan Han’s Examination paper collection of Qing Dynasty.
