We will be meeting on Wednesday, November 9 from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm in 11372 Bunche Hall for our weekly workshop as usual, but please note the shorter time. The time is shorter because that evening, workshop participants are invited to attend a film event at the James Bridge Theatre on UCLA's campus (aka Melnitz) at 7:30 pm.
The two films that will be screened as part of the 3rd China Onscreen Biennial are Saving Mes Aynak and A Deer of Nine Colors. More information about the films is available here. They are free to attend for UCLA students - just bring your BruinCard and meet outside the theatre at 7:15 pm.
During our 11am workshop, we will discuss the two sites that will be shown in the films - Mes Aynak and the Dunhuang caves - to provide context. Participants are invited to read the paper, "China Buys into Afghanistan," by Erica Downs, and an article in the Guardian on the Dunhuang caves.
If time allows, we will also discuss programming for winter and spring quarters with the goal of working towards a theme for a conference in spring.
As lunch will be served during the workshop, please RSVP by Tuesday afternoon.
