Graduate Research Fellowships

Through a grant from the Taiwan Ministry of Education, the UCLA Asia Pacific Center offers awards of up to $7,000 to UCLA graduate students for pre-dissertation or dissertation-level research in Taiwan. Students from any discipline may apply, but research must incorporate topics or methodologies of the humanities, social or behavioral sciences. Graduate student applicants must be current UCLA students in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Each application must be accompanied by a proposal of 2–3 pages in length, an unofficial UCLA transcript, CV, budget, and one UCLA faculty letter of recommendation. Proposals should identify an institution or scholar in Taiwan who will host you. Include the dates of your proposed travel.

Application Requirements:
Proposal (2-3 pages)
Unofficial UCLA transcript
Current CV
Budget
1 UCLA faculty letter of recommendation
Recommended: 1 Letter of endorsement from faculty mentor or institution in Taiwan
Please list any other awards that you have applied for or received for this fellowship period.

Eligibility:
According to guidelines established by the funding agency, students who are citizens of Taiwan, Hong Kong, or the People’s Republic of China are not eligible to apply unless they also hold US citizenship or have permanent resident status (Green Card). Green Card holders should consult foreign travel guidelines to ensure that they do not inadvertently abandon their permanent resident status due to extended travel outside the US.
