Our Alumni
Alumni of the UCLA International Institute Academic Programs live across the globe,
and are involved in a multitude of fields, including the education, government, cultural,
nonprofit, health, legal and business sectors and international affairs. Below are a few
bios of our alumni.
Katya Daniel (UCLA 2008) was named 2019 Young Alumnus of the Year at the annual UCLA Alumni Association awards ceremony held June 8, 2019, at the Luskin Conference Center.
After earning a B.A. in Latin American Studies at UCLA in 1996, John Arboleda built a career in higher education in the U.S. and Europe. He now serves as director of special projects & innovation at Instituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona and runs a consulting company based in Spain.
After studying development at UCLA and serving in the Peace Corps in Liberia, Ken Fukuda (IDS 2009) left his job and moved to Germany to pursue his passion for professional racing.
Claire Muller (UCLA 2009) credits her International Development Studies education with giving her an understanding of rural communities.
UCLA alumna Ira Sangar spoke to undergraduates about her experiences working in the development sector at an International Development Studies event in late May.
Josue Lopez Calderon (UCLA 2010) won a Gilman International Scholarship in 2010; he has now been named a Gliman Alumni Ambassador by the U.S. Department of State, which sponsors the scholarship.
