Orchid is the Director of the Latin American Institute's Hispanic American Periodicals Index (HAPI). Orchid received her BA in History and Latin American/Caribbean Studies from York University, and both an MA in History and a Master of Library Science from the University of Toronto. She has been involved with HAPI editorial activities since 1999, served as a volunteer indexer for three years before that, and joined the staff as Associate Editor in 2001.

Before coming to UCLA, she served as Latin America & Iberia Area Specialist for the Arizona State University Libraries. As a complement to her HAPI responsibilities, Orchid has been researching the information-seeking behavior of Latin Americanist students and professors.
