This talk will focus on the celebration of the Guelaguetza, which has taken place for 38 years in Los Angeles and 25 years in Fresno, California. Dr. Gaspar Rivera-Salgado, Director of the UCLA Center for Mexican Studies, will present on why these cultural celebrations have endured for so long and how they have evolved over the years to remain relevant to a constantly changing immigrant community and shifting political contexts.
