Funding for research on Taiwan. Deadline: January 31, 2025
The Asia Pacific Center offers awards to UCLA graduate students for pre-dissertation or dissertation-level research on Taiwan studies:
- Taiwan Studies Lectureship (TSL) Graduate Fellowship for travel to and research in Taiwan. Up to $6,250.*
- UCLA-NTNU Taiwan Studies Graduate Fieldwork Fellowship for research at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Up to $3,750.
- J. Yang and Family Centennial Scholarship for Taiwan studies research (may include travel to Taiwan, but not required). Up to $16,500.
Each applicant may apply for all awards that fit the research or collaborative project described in the application. Students from any discipline may apply, but research incorporating topics or methodologies of the humanities or social sciences is preferred.
* For the TSL Graduate Fellowship, students who are citizens of Taiwan, Hong Kong, or the People’s Republic of China are not eligible to apply unless they also hold U.S. citizenship or have permanent resident status (Green Card).
Application materials include:
- Proposal of 2–3 pages in length
- Unofficial UCLA transcript (minimum GPA of 3.0 required)
- CV
- Budget
- One UCLA faculty letter of recommendation
- Recommended (if applying for Taiwan-based research): One letter of endorsement from faculty mentor or institution in Taiwan (must be from NTNU if applying for NTNU award)
