孙萍教授
著名京剧表演艺术家,中国国家一级演员,中华人民共和国全国政治协商会议第十、十一、十二届全国委员会委员、外事委员会委员,中国人民大学国剧研究中心主任,北京外国语大学艺术研究院院长,国际戏剧家协会会员。
15岁主演现代京剧《赛驼之后》,在全国戏剧汇演中荣获3项大奖,一举成名。1978年,以总分第一的成绩被中国戏曲学院录取,成为该院首批20名本科生之一,也是中国京剧历史上的第一代大学生。
师从张君秋、杜近芳等人,被老一辈表演艺术家们称为“知识型京剧演员”。1982年毕业后进入中国京剧院,很快便展露天赋,先后同袁世海、杜近芳、李和曾、张学津等名家联袂,演出《霸王别姬》、《龙凤呈祥》、《白蛇传》等经典剧目,广受好评。1987年荣获中国京剧大赛优秀表演奖,1990年在纪念徽班进京200周年汇演中荣获最佳表演奖。
1990年,受文化部与中国剧协委派,赴匈牙利进行文化交流。在匈期间先后担任匈牙利裴多菲国家大剧院、利斯卡那剧院和国家戏剧学院导演,致力于将中国京剧推向世界、并成功地将京剧和欧洲戏剧相结合。1994年,由其改编自中国古典名著的戏剧作品《西游记》在国际戏剧节上获得最佳编剧与表演两项大奖,国际剧协将这种新兴的戏剧形式正式命名为“动作戏剧”,并宣布自此每年举行一次国际“动作戏剧”汇演。为此,还得到了时任德国总理的科尔的亲切接见与高度评价:“两种艺术结合之完美,看不到一点切凿的痕迹”——从而在真正意义上使得京剧艺术走进了国际舞台。随后又同匈、德、法等国艺术家一起编导了一系列的艺术作品,如《图兰朵》、《艺术家的节日》、《圣•拉兹洛国王》、《西区的故事》、《西贡小姐》等,在欧洲各国演出时受到了极大的欢迎,很多剧目至今仍常演不衰。匈牙利总统为表彰她为欧洲戏剧所作的杰出贡献,亲自授予了“荣誉国民证章”,并称孙萍为“文化大使”。
1999年孙萍应邀赴美国讲学与文化交流,同时担任美国耶鲁大学与宾夕法尼亚大学客座教授、美国华盛顿交响乐团与费城交响乐团艺术指导。2012年6月被奥巴马总统授予美国总统人文奖。回国后执导了大型舞剧《月上贺兰》荣获中国国家精品工程奖(国家最高奖项)、《清明上河图》以及大型京剧《新闹龙宫》等作品。
2007年起,出任中国人民大学国剧研究中心执行主任、北京外国语大学艺术研究院院长,致力于京剧表演理论体系的研究与完善,先后主编了《中国京剧百部经典英译》系列丛书、《富连成画传》等著作,获得多项国家级大奖。
Sun Ping is a Beijing Opera performing artist, a national first-class actress, a member of the international Dramatists Association and of 10th-12th China’s National Political Consultative Conference as well as Foreign Affairs Committee, Dean of the Art Research School of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Executive director of the Research Institute on Chinese National Opera at Renmin University.
At fifteen, she had a leading role in a modern Beijing Opera “After Camel Race” and won three national prizes. In 1978, she was enrolled into the undergraduate program at the institute of Chinese National Opera, one of the first groups of Beijing Opera artists with a college degree. At college, she was mentored by well-known artists such as Zhang Junqiu and Du Jinfang and her performance was backed up by extensive scholarly research. She entered the Beijing Opera Theatre of China in 1982 upon graduation from college. Together with famous Beijing Opera stars such as Yuan Shihai, Du Jinfang, Li Hezeng and Zhang Xuejin, she performed in a number of classical operas. “Farewell my lady”, “Romance of Liu Bei and Sun Shangxiang” and “Legend of White Snake”.
In 1990, Ms. Sun Ping was sent to Hungary in a cultural exchange program, serving as guest director of the Petofi Theatre and the National Drama Academy, embarking on a program to introduce Chinese performing art to the world.
In 1994, her adaptation of a classical Chinese novel “Journey to the West” won two important prizes on the International Drama Festival, initiating a new dramatic form later named as Action Drama in Europe. Her other projects, such as “The Artist’s Festival”, “King St. Laszlo” and “West Side Story”, were well received in several European countries. To recognize Ms. Sun Ping’s contribution to the cultural exchange and to European drama, Hungarian President Goncz Arpad named her “Honorary Citizen of Hungary” and acclaimed her a cultural ambassador.
In 1999, Ms. Sun Ping was invited to a lecture tour in the United States, where she worked as a visiting professor at Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania and as an adviser to the Washington National Symphony Orchestra and the University of Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra.
In June 2012, Ms. Sun received Presidential Humanities Award from President Barack Obama. The drama works she directed has won top awards in China.
In 2007, Ms. Sun Ping was appointed the dean of the Art Research School at Beijing Foreign Studies University and executive director of the Research Institute on Chinese National Operas at Renmin University of China, aiming at the research and improvement of Beijing Opera performing theory. She has also edited and published books including “English Translation of A Hundred Beijing Opera”, “Biography of the Fuliancheng School”, etc.
