The Sri Aurobindo Center of Los Angeles presents an evening of Indian classical music at at the Philosophical Research Society (PRS), Los Angeles, with sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, accompanied on tabla by Janab Akram Khan.
Hailing from the legendary "Etawa gharana," Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is the son of Ustad Aziz Khan, famous musician and noted composer, and the grandson of Ustad Wahid Khan, surbahar and sitar grandmaster and uncle to Ustad Vilayat Khan. Ustad Shahid Khan was introduced by his father to vocal music, tabla and sitar from a young age, and showed himself to be a child prodigy. He gave his first public performance at the age of eight and displayed a combination of vocal and instrumental (gayaki and tantrakari) traditions in his playing.
Shahidji is accompanied on tabla by Janab Akram Khan, one of the most brilliant young tabla players of India today, who has been hand-picked for accompaniment by such giants of sitar as Ustad Vilayat Khan and Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee.
