Ziad Abu-Rish is a Ph.D. student in the UCLA Department of History. His research interests center on the political economy of state building in the Middle East. His dissertation, tentatively entitled "Social Conflict and State Building in Lebanon, 1946-1970," explores elite and popular struggles over the nature of state-market relations in the wake of independence. Ziad is also a member of Quilting Point, a film production team working on a documentary series that deals with the contentious topic of "Arabs and Terrorism."
