Ku'ialua is the ancient warrior art modernly known as Lua. This class will provide some of the history of the Hawaiian warrior class and martial instruction specifically of the Lua lineage of 'Olohe (Master) Solomon Kaihewalu. This warrior art—once banned from public display—is sacred to practitioners and, in order to preserve its integrity, is not generally taught to non-Hawaiians. The Kaihewalu Lua is an external martial art rooted in battlefield tactics. Using body mechanics specific to Lua, students will learn the foundational lower body stances, kicks and sweeps, foundational upper body strikes, and animal and elemental movements.
