Chancellor Gene Block hosted a UCLA Global Forum in Paris for local alumni and friends. The evening event included a reception and exclusive private viewing of the Striking Iron exhibition at Musee du Quai Branly. Marla C. Berns, Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres, provided guests with a private tour of the exhibition which was originally curated by the UCLA Fowler Museum.
About the Striking Iron Exhibition
Striking Iron is a major international traveling exhibition originally curated by the UCLA Fowler Museum. The exhibition reveals the history of invention and technical sophistication that led African blacksmiths to transform one of Earth’s most basic natural resources into objects of life-changing utility, empowerment, and astonishing artistry. Technologies of iron smelting and forging, which were first developed on the African continent roughly 2,500 years ago, require extraordinary innovation and sophistication.
