Maziar Behrooz was born in Tehran, Iran. He received his B.A degree in History-Government from Saint Mary’s College of California (1982), his M.A. in Modern History of Europe from San Francisco State University (1986), and his Ph.D. in Modern History of the Near East from University of California, Los Angeles (1993). He has taught at a number of universities and colleges including UC Berkeley, Saint Mary's College of California, Stanford University, Bridgewater State College and is currently an associate professor at the History Department of San Francisco State University. He has authored numerous articles and book chapters on Iran and is the author of two books on the history of the left movement in Iran. His first book is Rebels with a Cause (1999), which has been translated into Persian (2001) and Turkish (2006). His second book is Perspectives on the History of Rebels with a Cause in Iran (2006) which is a collection of articles and interviews on the left movement in Iran, translated and published in Persian in Iran. His current research project is about late 18th century-early 19th century encounters between Iran and the Western world.
 
Ali Farassati graduated from Virginia Tech University with a degree in Urban Planning and received his Ph.D. from the University of Paris (France) in Geopolitical Sciences. The topic of his dissertation was “Iran and the Crisis of South Caucasia” in which he explored the history of Russo-Iranian relations. He was an adjunct faculty with the Department of Political Sciences at the Islamic Azad University of Iran and is currently an adjunct faculty at CSUN. He has published several books and numerous articles in Persian, English, and French, including “Islam, Fatwa et Salman Rushdie,” “Factors and Opinions in Geopolitics,” and “Non-violent Struggle: Strategies and Tactics.” His articles regarding the bicentennial of the Iran-Russia Golestan Treaty and its consequences, the political views of Aleksandr Dugin, and the current Russo-Iranian relations have appeared in various Iranian newspapers and online journals inside and outside Iran.

Afshin Matin-Asgari received his Ph.D. from University of California, Los Angles. His areas of specialization are: 20th-century Middle East, modern Iran, and modern Islamic political and intellectual movements. He has published articles in Iranian Studies, Critique, South Asia Bulletin and other academic journals. His book, Iranian Student Opposition to the Shah, was published late fall 2001. A Persian translation of this book’s manuscript has already been published in Iran. Professor Matin-Asgari teaches various courses in Middle East history, world history, Islam, and comparative religion at California State University, Los Angeles.
