Join UCLA Regents’ Professor and distinguished Chinese theater director Meng Jinghui for a public presentation on his theatrical works. Moderated by Michael Berry (Director, UCLA Center for Chinese Studies), Mr. Meng will discuss his own body of avant garde works and his two Chinese theater festivals: the Beijing Fringe Festival and the WuZhen Theatre Festival. This event will be conducted bilingually in Chinese and English followed by a Q&A and reception with light refreshments.
MENG Jinghui is an influential theater director in China. He graduated from the Chinese Department of Beijing Normal University in 1986 and earned his master degree in directing at the Central Academy of Drama in 1991. He entered into the National Theatre of China in 1992 and is also a State First-Class Director. He has revolutionized contemporary theater by sending a torrent of diverse new voices onto the stage. He has created over 50 pieces of works for the stage since the 1990s, including Rhinoceros in Love, Red and Black, The Seventh Day, Waiting for Godot, I Love XXX, Head without Tail, Mermaid in the Backwater and many more.
Meng Jinghui is a Regents Professor as part of the University of California Regents' Professor and Regents' Lecturer Programs (RPLP). He is a distinguished leader in the arts and is teaching at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television exclusively during the winter quarter 2025.
