- We wanted to help some able students prepare for a better future, and
- We were looking for ways to work against discrimination.
Education is the key to achieving both aims. The Lee brothers may not always have been top students, but we have always believed very strongly in education.
That is why we have sponsored the Sammy Yukuan Lee scholarships, the Sammy Yukuan Lee Lecture Series on Chinese Art and Archaeology (in honor of our father), and the New Approaches to Chinese Studies lectures.
We believe that with education comes the ability to know cultures other than one's own, and we have always looked for the most effective ways to foster this ability among UCLA's students."
Norma adds that, as part of her association with UCLA and with the Center, she has spent many delightful days immersing herself in the holdings of the UCLA libraries, particularly the East Asian Library and Special Collections.
