Jennifer Manoukian is a PhD candidate in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research explores the social and intellectual history of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire. She is currently at work on her dissertation, which explores the role of purism in the creation of the Western Armenian written standard in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
