Sona Tajiryan's research focuses on an early modern Armenian family firm from New Julfa and their involvement in the luxury trade of diamonds and gems between the Indian Subcontinent and the Mediterranean. Sona got her Ph.D. in History from UCLA and her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies from Yerevan State University.
