Morning Workshop

Title: An ecological perspective for a standards-based approach to HL development
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 AM
Workshop Leader: Shuhan Wang, National Foreign Language Center, Washington, D.C.

With the presence of more HL students in our world language classroom, how do teachers meet the demands of addressing the needs of individual HL students while ensuring the content and instruction of the course/program are standards-based? Based on the matrices derived from a conceptual framework, this workshop facilitated participants to examine factors affecting heritage language students' development in both the dominant and heritage languages. Participants had the opportunity to engage in probing discussions and hands-on exercises to develop instructional strategies or activities for their programs. This workshop was not language-specific.
