Yaron Cherniak

Yaron Cherniak is a PhD student in Ethnomusicology at UCLA. Cherniak is an expert in Middle Eastern and maqam-based music. As a multi-instrumentalist, he has enhanced his skills in various musical traditions from the Middle East. At the Jerusalem Academy of Music, he successfully obtained a B.A. in Music, studying in the Department of Cross-Disciplinary Music, training in writing and performance of Arabic, Turkish, Persian, and Contemporary Western music. At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Cherniak successfully earned his M.A. in musicology, specializing in the analysis of semiotic meanings in music compositions and the subversive nature of music during the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
