2022–23 Postdoctoral Fellow
Nathaniel Shils holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the trajectory of post-Oslo Israeli–Palestinian relations. At the Nazarian Center, Dr. Shils taught a new course in Global Studies, "Conflict and Power Sharing in Deeply Divided Places," and worked on papers about annexation, the one-state reality, and the challenges facing the Palestinian national movement since the end of the peace process. He also began to develop his doctoral dissertation into a book manuscript, provisionally titled The Uncertain Horizons of Self-Determination: Politics and Strategy Formation Among Israelis and Palestinians After the Oslo Accords. Prior to his fellowship at UCLA, Dr. Shils taught courses on the Middle East, nationalism, international law, and the politics of self-determination at the University of Pennsylvania and Bryn Mawr College. During the 2023–24 academic year, he will be teaching at Wellesley College.
