Michael Beenstock is the Pinchas Sapir Professor of Economics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and was a professor at City University, London from 1981-87. He is a Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research, London.
Professor Beenstock’s wide-ranging research interests cover applied econometrics, world economics, the Israeli economy, energy economics, immigrant absorption, economic inequality, illicit drugs, and sibling-parent interactions. Research projects include: sea level rise and global climate change; the flow approach to the interpretation of unemployment - a synthesis; sharing knowledge assets across inter-regionally cohesive neighbors, and valuing accessibility: the case of the Trans-Israel Highway.

He is the author of a great many books and journal articles. A few of his recent publications are Heredity, Family and Inequality: A Critique of Social Sciences (Cambridge, MA, MIT Press, 2012), “Capital Deepening and Regional Inequality: An Empirical Analysis” (Annals of Regional Science, 2011), and “Testing the Immigrant Assimilation Hypothesis with Longitudinal Data” (Review of Economics of the Household), 2010.
Dr. Beenstock will be teaching in the UCLA Global Studies Department and Sociology Department.
