About the Film
Aumari, a young Eritrean refugee living in Israel, is about to be deported back to his home country. After a spontaneous escape attempt at the airport, he is mistaken for a Nigerian soccer player, who is supposed to arrive at the same time to help a struggling Israeli team. Aumari seizes the opportunity and benefits for his change of identity as the new key acquisition for the team Maccabi Netanya. Despite the absence of any soccer talent, Aumari is able to cover-up and heal the divisions within the team, while a tender romantic bond with the team owner's charmingly unconventional daughter is growing. About the Director/Speaker
"I was born in 1982 in a small village in north of Israel called 'Ein Iron". When I was 18, I became a musician and had a rock band for 8 years. I was writing and composing the songs. After I produced one of our music videos for the band the director asked me to come and produce more projects together with him. After two years producing many music videos, I started my own company called Firma Films, together with my partner Roni Abramowsky, producing feature films and series. I was involved from the first words that were written until the last frame in the post. With one project we developed (Running on Sand) we were looking for a director and I was so connected to it that I decided to direct it myself and fell in love with it."
Other Shafran credits include the films Maktub (2017), The Wedding Plan (2016) and Douze Points (2019). He is also the chair of the Israel TV and Film Producers Association.
