About the Conference
The UCLA Nazarian Center for Israel Studies is pleased to host its third annual Undergraduate Scholars Conference in Israel Studies. This is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students (Bachelor degree programs) to present and discuss their research on modern Israel (in any academic discipline). Students selected to showcase their work at the conference will be invited to give a 10 to 12-minute presentation of their work, and participate in a moderated Q&A with their peers. The 2021 virtual conference is open to students from any campus in the United States and abroad.

Submission Process
Applicants should submit abstracts of approximately 100-250 words that outline the premise, research methods, and thesis of their paper no later than May 14th. Applicants will be notified if they have been accepted to the conference by May 21st.

Accepted applicants should submit their final papers by June 4th (link below). Papers should deal with the modern period, ranging from late Ottoman Palestine to the State of Israel today. Papers should be 2,000 to 3,000 words in length (double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font, one-inch margins), written in English, include a bibliography, and be properly cited in the style that is most suitable to the applicant's academic field. Applicants who have written longer texts like dissertations or theses may select a chapter or portion of their work within the previously stated page range for consideration.

Accepted applicants should confirm that they will be able to participate in the presentation and Q&A portion of the conference no later than June 4th, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Awards
The UCLA Nazarian Center for Israel Studies will award prizes to the best paper, and the runner-up. Awards will be based on originality, depth of research and analysis, and quality of writing. The best paper winner will receive $350 USD, and the runner up will receive $150 USD. The Nazarian Center will present these awards on the day of the conference following the conclusion of the day's panels.
