Project Description: Book project on the life and legacy of diplomat, scholar and civil rights activist Ralph Bunche (1903-1971), provisionally-titled The Arts of Peace: Ralph Bunche and the Making of the Postwar World. Bunche, the namesake of UCLA's Bunche Hall, was a 1927 graduate of the University who worked for the U.S. State Department and then the United Nations. He served as Undersecretary-General of the UN and received the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize for his late 1940s work as mediator in the Arab-Israeli crisis.
