This Heritage Language Research Institute will serve to bring together researchers, practitioners, and students fostering the presentation and discussion of current developments in the field of heritage language studies. The Institute comes for the first time to the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a campus with a rich tradition of heritage language linguistics from many angles. Our Institute will place special focus on heritage language education, from the perspectives of students, parents, teachers, administrators, and researchers. We aim to create a bridge between different viewpoints on heritage language learning, from teaching to research to policy. We are planning workshops for K-12 teachers, heritage speakers and learners, parents, and others. Researchers, practitioners, and students in fields that focus on or engage with (heritage) bi/multilingualism—regardless of theoretical, methodological, pedagogical, or disciplinary perspective—are especially encouraged to attend and participate in the dialogue.
