Speaking from Tokyo, Prof. Jae-Jung Suh will examine recent development in the region-wide arms race toward first strike capability. Speaking from Seoul, Prof. Dong-Choon Kim will discuss "war politics" in South Korea, and how the specter of external and internal enemies has been sustained.

Jae-Jung Suh is Professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies at International Christian University (Tokyo, Japan). Previously, he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Government at Cornell University, a member of the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning (Republic of Korea), and Associate Professor and Director of Korea Studies at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University. The author/editor of five books, Prof. Suh is currently working on a book on "history wars" in East Asia.
Dong-Choon Kim is Professor in the Sociology Department, and Director of the Institute for Democracy at Sungkonghoe University. From 2005-2009, he was a Standing Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Republic of Korea. Prof. Kim is the author of several books and numerous articles. His book 전쟁과 사회 (2000) has been translated into German, Japanese, and English, and widely read in university courses. The English title is The Unending Korean War.
