Today, financial accounting plays a critical role in corporate environment by providing financial information to stakeholders, such as shareholders, creditors, and regulators. After Ball and Brown (1968), modern accounting has developed based on financial accounting theory closely related to the capital market. For example, how much a company's net income affects the company's stock or whether corporate profits are sustainable and non-manipulative price are important research questions in financial accounting theory.
Annual reports are an important source of information to answer the previous research questions. The annual report provides not only financial statements, but also various corporate information, such as the contents of the business and the manager's performance evaluation. In addition, it helps predict the future performance of the company through various analyses and helps with making investment decisions. In this presentation, Professor Gun Lee will look at the contents of the annual report and present a method to analyze it to help in making investment decisions.
