David O'Sullivan (http: //www.euintheus.org/who-we-are/ambassadors-corner/biography/) is the Ambassador of the European Union to the United States of America. Prior to arriving in the US, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of the European External Action Service (EEAS), which supports the High Representative/Vice President of the European Commission in ensuring the consistency of the Union’s external action, and assists the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission in the area of external relations.
He started his career in the Irish Foreign Ministry and spent four years in the Commission Delegation in Tokyo. He has extensive experience in EU social and employment policy, served as Director General for Education and Training, and was Head of Cabinet of Commission President Romano Prodi. He was Secretary General of the European Commission from 2000 to 2205 and Director General for Trade from 2005 to 2010.
David O’Sullivan has a background in economics, graduating from Trinity College, Dublin and having completed post graduate studies at the College of Europe in Bruges. He holds Honorary Doctorates from the Dublin Institute of Technology and from his Alma Mater, Trinity College, and is a visiting Professor at the European College of Parma. In 2014, he was awarded the EU Transatlantic Business Award by the American Chamber of Commerce.
