Video of Panel II from UCLA Asia Institute's May 21, 2011 conference (Pt 1)
Posted by: Asia InstituteMusic offers vivid expressions of distinctive cultures that can affirm social identities at the same time as it creates fascination and wonder for new listeners. Music reproduces and transforms within well-defined traditions and music moves and mixes across times and places to create new sounds and sensibilities. Asian music of many kinds is part of the Los Angeles cultural scene and the study and performance of music at UCLA engages Asia both in our city and overseas. The third annual Asia in LA conference, held on May 21, 2011 at Covel Commons, UCLA, showcased the many sounds of Asian music and considered what we can learn about Asia by listening to its melodies more closely.
