GRCA director speaks on African issues.
UCLA political scientist Edmond Keller, director of the Globalization Research Center–Africa, was recently featured on NPR’s "News & Notes." The show, hosted by Farai Chideya, features weekly updates on Africa. Professor Keller talked about the booming African minerals sector and described how African oil production affects the price of gas in America. He addressed the "resource curse," the tendency of natural riches to lead to neglect in other sectors of the economy. He also spoke on the significance of the prosecution of former Democratic of Congo militia leader Thomas Lubanga, whose trial in March will be the first-ever war crimes proceeding at the International Criminal Court in the Hague. Lubanga is accused of recruiting and training child soldiers.
