Arch Getty is Professor of History at the University of California, Los Angeles. He holds a PhD in History from Boston College. He specializes on the Stalinist period and the history of the Soviet Communist Party. His books and articles have been published in the US, England, France, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Japan and Russia. He is the author of
Practicing Stalinism: Bolsheviks, Boyars, and the Persistence of Tradition (Yale University Press, 2013),
Yezhov: The Rise of Stalin's "Iron Fist" (Yale University Press, 2008),
